Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari passed away at the age of 82 in a London clinic.
He died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and previously as a military head of state from 1983 to 1985.
He was known for his strong anti-corruption stance and efforts to revamp Nigeria’s economy during his tenure.
He was born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, Buhari joined the Nigerian Army in 1961 and held several key positions, including Military Governor of the North Eastern State and Federal Commissioner of Petroleum Resources.
He won the presidential election in 2015, defeating Goodluck Jonathan, and was re-elected in 2019. His administration prioritized infrastructure projects, anti-corruption campaigns, and economic diversification.
Buhari’s presidency was marked by efforts to stabilize the economy, fight insurgency, and promote national security. He gained a reputation for personal discipline and anti-corruption efforts.
