The largest diamond in more than a century, weighing 2,492 carats, has been discovered in Botswana.
The world’s second-largest diamond, a 2,492-carat stone, has been discovered in Botswana’s Karowe Diamond Mine using X-ray technology. The Canadian mining company, Lucara Diamond Corp, announced the find but did not specify its value or quality. This diamond is second only to the 3,016-carat Cullinan Diamond found in South Africa in 1905. Lucara President William Lamb expressed excitement about the discovery, noting that the diamond is one of the largest ever found. Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi was shown the massive stone, which is the largest rough diamond unearthed since the Cullinan Diamond.
